Finger PostsFinger Posts

A finger post is a sign post that has one or more directional arms, these arms are known as fingers, hence the name finger post. The fingers will have place names on them and point in the direction of a particular place. These interpretive signs are used to help and guide visitors, helping to increase a positive experience.

Regular finger post will be made from; wood, aluminium, steel or cast iron and in some cases painted in basic colours such as black, white or grey depending on the clients specifications and the intended location of the finger post.

The location of the finger post determines the type of finger post that is required as many clients consider the environment in which the interpretive sign will be placed; For instance if the intended location of the post was in a wooded area and was to be used as a footpath direction sign, our clients would generally request the finger post to be made from wood, this allows the finger post to blend into the background and not stick out like a sore thumb, whilst still allowing the visitor to see clearly the direction they need to go in or the path they need to follow.

Our clients can be assured that all our wood and timber is purchased from Forestry Steward Council suppliers (FSC), all trees harvested by the FSC are allowed to grow naturally back or be replaced where this is not possible.

We mainly use two different types of wood, oak or a pressure treated softwood. Which wood we use on each sign depends entirely on the clients specifications and their budget. Some clients find oak is an expensive choice even though it is the best option if the client wants a very attractive finish with a high standard of quality. Softwood therefore is the cheaper option. No matter which wood we are working with our standards do not falter and each sign is given our utmost attention to detail and ensured to meet all our clients expectations and desires.

Many clients who purchase interpretation signs for more urban locations such as housing estates or shopping centres where vandalism could be considered to be a problem, tend to opt for a steel posted interpretation, you can choose from a brushed stainless steel or a mild steel, both are galvanised for extra reinforcement and then sprayed in the colour chosen by the client. The fingers are sturdy and durable, these are manufactured from glass reinforced plastic (GRP), allowing the sign to be easily read yet hardy to environmental and human elements.
